Field Studies Instructor

All Field Studies Instructors undergo a comprehensive training programme. Your aptitude will be assessed during this course, together with your skills and experience given on your application form. This will help us to prepare a personal development plan for you. You'll also begin to acquire some of the specific skills required to teach our Study Courses, such as classroom presentation techniques.

You'll then undergo training for each study course or adventurous activity that you'll be required to teach. A typical Field Studies course covers a range of popular units and may have both written and practical assessments. Full training is given in teaching and fieldwork skills along with all the academic theory behind each of the different units offered at your chosen centre. Full training is also given in off-site Safety Skills and Emergency First Aid.

All Field Studies Instructors will be trained in the use of ICT facilities, to enhance expertise and session delivery skills. It is common for Field Studies Instructors to be trained in Science, Maths ot ICT, as these courses are similar in style and structure.

The Study Course department is highly dynamic and with the aid of our Instructors, is constantly changing to meet the demands of the National Curriculum, Educational Policy and Regional Exam Syllabuses.

As a first year Field Studies Instructor, you'll work towards the Level 2 Award in Introductory Work in the Outdoors, as the first level of the PGL Apprenticeship Scheme.
