Considering Your First School Trip

If this is your first trip with PGL, or even the first time you have organised a residential, you can rest assured that you will receive all the support you need every step of the way from us. As a teacher you can also expect to be supported at all times by fully trained, helpful and enthusiastic staff and your group to stay in top quality accommodation and to receive instruction in a huge range of premium adventure activities.

To get you started, here are the answers to a few of those questions that party leaders frequently ask when booking with us for the first time.

When should I book?

The timing of your booking will depend on the organisation of your school’s annual timetable, but we advise that you try to book early. Early booking helps with issues such as cover, it helps parents by giving them more time to budget for the trip and by giving you more time to deal with preparations.

Can I influence what my group’s learning outcomes will be?

Here at PGL we work with you to tailor the learning outcomes to your precise needs. We know that you are the best-placed person to decide on the learning outcomes you wish to gain from a residential experience with PGL; you know your students, you know how they would most benefit. So at PGL we spend time talking to you before you travel to make sure we have agreed your planned outcomes.

What about being inclusive?

We understand there are constraints on budgets, particularly in the current climate. Through a range of initiatives and partnerships we strive to make our courses accessible to as many of your pupils as possible. Our work with the Sainsbury’s Active Kids campaign and the Peter Gordon Lawrence bursary has meant that more and more young people are able to enjoy the outstanding benefits of the PGL experience.

Look at when you travel

By considering carefully when you travel you can make considerable savings on peak summer term prices. To get even better value for money our half week durations are proving increasingly popular.

Look at what accommodation you choose to stay in

Many of our centres offer a choice of accommodation type. For the same great PGL experience at even better value, why not choose tented accommodation? Our “tented villages” mean you are grouped together in solid based tents with frame beds and bathroom facilities close at hand.

Can I attend a Preview Visit?

We recommend that you do. Teachers new to PGL are invited to experience PGL at first hand on a teacher preview – it’s free of charge in the UK and will give you all the reassurance you need. We also welcome Head Teachers and Governors and we provide full board accommodation and activities for you and your family.Details on preview visits.
